About Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a holistic therapy that is comprised of a natural manual series of tests and techniques for diagnosis and therapy. The word “holistic" means that it regards the whole person and considers every part of the body, but also mind and emotions, to be intimately interconnected between each other. In order to cure and take care of a patient’s health, the osteopath needs to think of and treat the body as a unity and the person as a unique complex system.

Born in 1874 from the brilliant mind of Andrew Taylor Still, who discovered that it had the ability to change the physiology of the body, Osteopathy significantly developed through the years and all over the world until now.

A. T. Still studies in medicine, and especially his great interest in anatomy, helped him to understand the considerable connection between structure and function and he eventually developed a means of restoring freedom to restricted tissues by using his hands. His aim was to change the structure in order to positively affect the function, he strongly believed that the body was potentially perfect and capable to restore a profound balance.

After more than one century of its creation, Osteopathy has largely demonstrated its efficacy in treating a wide range of medical and physical conditions, improving health and preventing future illness.

During the treatment, the osteopath can use several techniques (such as Cranial, Sacral, Visceral, Functional, Fascial, Structural, BMT, BLT, Strain Counterstrain, HVLA) based on the patient's medical history, present condition and needs.
